ASES National Solar Tour at NIU October 1st

This tour [216 Windsor Drive, DeKalb, IL -- just a mile and a half from the NIU campus] is for anyone interested in viewing and learning about residential solar photovoltaic systems. The system is a SunPower system with 16 315-watt solar panels, a 5000M inverter, and a SunPower performance and consumption monitoring system, including both Web monitoring and an iPhone app. Visitors will be able to view the panels, the inverter, and performance and consumption data since the system was installed in September, 2010. The homeowner will be glad to answer questions based upon his experience with the system, including his thoughts on ComEd Net-Metering and Residential Real-Time Pricing (RRTP), both of which the homeowner uses. The installer of this PV System is Habi-Tek Renewable Energy Systems, Tom Debates, Owner, located in Geneva, Illinois. Also this homeowner has purchased a 2011 Chevrolet Volt, which can be seen along with its charging system, which can be used to provide energy from the solar panels to charge the Volt. The home owner is very interested in doing what he can to help protect the environment, and would be happy to discuss his experiences with students, faculty, and staff in Environmental Sciences and Technology.
